Reasons to be excited because Manchester United are back!

Reasons to be excited because Manchester United are back

Before I start, I realise how can I list all the wonderful things about Manchester United being back in just a few points on a blog. Well I can write an opus but would anyone take the time to read it? Exactly. I like most of you I’m sure, are not just excited about Manchester United being back but also the football season. Manchester United is the all consuming part of my life but football itself is a big passion of mine also.

Some of these reasons might not be totally Manchester United related but it’s my list and I can do what I want!

The Premier League is back tomorrow!

First and foremost the season starts tomorrow, our campaign starts against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night. Hard to believe that we’ve waited so long for the new season isn’t it? Some of us impatiently… (More …)

United > England or United > Lack of Success?

‘The Faithful’ would like to welcome one of our new writers @Caddies to our site. Here is his first article for us.

Euro 2012 starts in a week and England’s first match is a week on Monday against France. I’m looking forward to the full tournament as a football fan but I’m also looking forward to England’s campaign as an England fan. They’ve been drawn in what looks like a very difficult group but other than Group A, I wouldn’t fancy any of the other groups either. It’s a tough tournament that should serve up some great football. Manchester United’s Search For Mr. Right

Many club football fans typically abhor international breaks. They spend the intermittent time between their club’s fixtures to deplore the lack of “proper football” and complain about their national teams. I certainly am no exception and my distaste for the US national side is well-documented. But unlike others, I have come to enjoy the international breaks, mainly because it allows a brief respite from the cacophony of the regular season and provides perspective.

we dont need a rb we got rafael, hes kept bale quiet when he was on killer form and dont forget what happened to ribery. kyle walker is good but the twins are potentially the best fullbacks in the world. as for fabio it must be a real task taking evra the worlds best lb’s spot. your forgetting evans hes going to be ferdinands replacement.
      also fryers a left bk.

While this is a very well written piece I disagree with the premise. At the ages Smalling and Jones are at now all first team experience with Manchester United will be beneficial to them irrespective of where Ferguson chooses to play them. Both have excelled in the position because both have plenty of pace and skill and like to get forward. There’s no reason this can’t continue. That’s of course without even mentioning the twins who are both right footed. Both have been inconsistent but both have shown that they have more than enough to succeed. If we should be worrying about any of the full back spots it’s left back that should be of concern. Evra is getting on now and his form has noticeably dipped in the last 12-18 months or so. We have Fabio and Evans who can play there but neither would count left back as their natural position. I noticed you mentioned Fryers, if anyone from the youth system is going to make the left back spot his own it will be him. He’s a left back not a right back. In summation I think we’re good for the moment at both full back spots and good at rich back far into the future with all our options there. Left back is much more uncertain once Evra has packed it in.

I just want to say that Man Utd do look like there struggling without some players like vidic, John O’shea, Rafael, Fabio, Gary, scholes and any other players i have forgot to mension beacuse there defence and midfiald has’nt been at there best last few matches and i can know from watching and the results havent been at uniteds best but now that gary and a few other players have gone or not playing that they now need a better defence. even though i have never played for academy but gone to trails and not got in because they concentrate on their strikers and goalkeepers more they didnt give me enough chance to get use to the team and told me no but i have played for my schools sometimes and im now at college playing for the team and i think that now i have the avility to progress to a professional standard when i leave college which is sometime in the middle of 2012 i think that i could play for a goodish pro team and maybe later play for a team as good as man utd beacuse i am a brilliant defence player but i think im better midfield where i am currently playing for the college becuse im always finding space recieving the ball and making good passes which progress onto goals most times and ehn defending i am always back and i ahve good stamina becuse i hardly ever stop running and im always involved but given the cahnce when i leave college i will try out for this but i will ask for at least a 2 week trail to show thwm my true talent in football and that i am gifted i think anyway and even in high school sports teachers and other students were saying to me that i am a brilliant player and one day when i was raining i proved that at the best of my ability by stopping 8 players arund me from scoring because as soon as they got the ball i tackled them and got it out and that was the day i realised i had something special because we were playing on a flooded pitch were the other team had a massive advantage but we still won and im not trying to be big headed or anything here becuase im actually a quiet lad but arent we all suppose to follow are dreams and i think im am good enough to play for a pro team in the next few years and people will hopefully start to notice more becuase i have good agility, fitness levels, movement and i am aware of what happens around me and most times i can read most passes being made in a football match and no i dont win every match but i belive no team in the world could do that and even if they can then that doesnt mean there the best it just means they can’t accepth defeat when it happens to them. and im sorry if my spelling isnt perfect or my writing skills but this was rushed because i have assignments to do and i hope that the united defence take this one thing on that i am about to say for them them to tackle the players instead of following them and watching the ball because tackling them straight away works a lot better and makes it harder for there opponents to score or attack them and this is not me trying to be smart this is just from personal experience and the last thing i have to say is good luck to all the man utd players, coaches and managers on winning the FA cup, UEFA, barclays and anyother championship or cup ive not mensioned and i hope that i see you later on in the future. Thanks for reading and taking an interest in what i have to say

End of Season Awards: “19″ by @Luzhniki2008

Leaving Anfield in April 1992 after Manchester United had lost 2-0 to Liverpool, meaning Leeds had won the league whilst United had gone 25 years without a league title, I would never have predicted what would happen in the following 19 years. Season 2010-11 was another memorable one for Manchester United fans, with the club overtaking Liverpool to reach 19 league titles, to their 18 titles. In addition, the club reached another Champions League Final, which was to sadly end in defeat to Barcelona at Wembley. These are my awards for this great season: (More …)

My Manchester United 2010-11 Awards by Sarah

I admit I’m a bit late in putting my awards selection together for two reasons I’m trying to extend the football season to suit myself and because I haven’t yet made up my mind who I will award each thing to! I’m hoping as I sit down to write this that it will all come together… here’s hoping! (More …)

Nice read as ever, clear and informative.I would nominate Wayne’s over head kick against City as the key goal for me and pivotal in turning round his season, in as much he could and did say bye his goal celebration ‘I am back’.
I am massively surprised and bewildered….No mention of ‘Ryan Giggs’ * shock horror * lol.
Thanks for the articles during the past season, have a brilliant summer and yes look forward to the 20th.

Thanks! I’d have Roo’s goal v City as my second purely because it seemed too obvious to choose! I don’t like obvious! Haha!

    Gary Neville is a red…

Following the announcement that Gary Neville will retire from football with immediate effect, Sarah had asked if I would write a piece for The Faithful. Not only is it an absolute pleasure to be asked to join the great writers on this fantastic site, but also to be given the opportunity to write my first official piece on one of Manchester United’s most passionate and long-standing servants, someone who bleeds Manchester United to the core. It is however, unfortunate to be doing this as we say farewell to a member of our small elite group of incredibly loyal players.

      Gary Neville, an absolute legend.
Thank you Gary for everything. A captain, probably not as influential as Roy Keane but someone who never resisted what he had to say. Great right back and a brilliant crosser of the ball.
Thanks for being such a servant.
Still remember the time when he kissed the United badge in front of Liverpool fans when Rio Ferdinand scored that decisive winner.

      Well written article.

Gary Neville announces his retirement with immediate effect

Gary Neville has taken the decision to retire from football after 20 years of playing at Manchester United. It can’t have been an easy decision to make for the 36 year old but he’s keen to move forward and for Manchester United to also do the same without him. He will retire with immediate effect. How the relationship between fans and players has changed over the years

There have been many changes in football since I first started becoming interested in it 20 years ago, and even more so since becoming a regular match-goer 14 years ago. The introduction of the Premier League in 1992 heralded the start of the glamorisation of the sport- a new generation of footballers were being looked upon as pin ups, rather than tough, beasts of men. Money started to become king at the expense of morals it could be argued, and matches were more widely accessible to the masses through Sky than ever before. But although more people had access to watching matches on tv, the relationship between matchgoing fan and player started to become more and more detached. (More …)

That’s so true – remember my little boy getting SAF’s autograph on his matchday programme cover in felt tip outside the South Stand…by the end of the game it’d been wiped off – doh! Also remember that Becks Silvester Ole and Teddy were good autograph givers to kids…Veron not so much :( Also remember having to dig a certain Janmetcalf out from a scrum of Asian supporters who were clamouring for Beckham’s autograph before an ECL tie once :S

    The Trouble With Berbatov

As the squad has landed ready for the pre- season tour of the US, my mind is totally over the World Cup (to be honest it was weeks ago, and not just because England crashed out) and back onto more important matters – Manchester United. There is much speculation among fans that due to the Glazer debt we cannot afford to do any transfer business for the new season. Sir Alex has come out and said there is no need for any business to be done and has reiterated that we have a good youth set-up coming through. (More …)

I somehow have a little faith left in him but maybe it’s more hope than faith. This tour could show us what we will get from him but it might be misleading aswell

      • Sarah 14:28 on July 13, 2010 Permalink | Reply

        Cheers for reading Crispin.

I agree with your point about the tour, it’s his time to prove himself but we need to maybe not get carried away also.

Let’s hope he does prove us all wrong

    • United Rant 14:10 on July 13, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Berbatov’s problem in my opinion is twofold. First, Ferguson will deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation in all the biggest matches, so Berbatov won’t play much, or out of position. It’s pretty obvious that Berbatov’s not built to play up front on his own.

Second, hoping that he’ll perform better than in the last two seasons is probably futile. As my old business mentor used to say – “hope is no kind of strategy”. The club, we the fans, Ferguson should bank on Berbatov being exactly the same player. He’s 29, at his peak, there’s no more to come. Are we happy with that… if not perhaps its time for him to move on.

      • Sarah 14:31 on July 13, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Absolutely he doesn’t fit into United’s ideal formation. I hope he sees the tour and start of the season as his biggest yet.

We’re waiting to see what turns up…

guy pls too rush to sell berba we have very bad experience with forlan rossi and this season we already sold our promising youngsters very cheaply

      • Sarah 10:06 on July 14, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Rush to sell? So if he underperforms this season should we keep him?

Which promising youngsters have we sold this season?

    • philgatt 15:19 on July 13, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I’m one of those that likes Berbatov, but have to agree with what’s being said here. We don’t doubt his ability as we know he’s very good, but he needs to show he wants to be there, rather than look like it’s enough just by turning up.

Seeing as I backed Nani all the way when others were criticising him, I’ll do the same with Berbatov and hope he’ll start repaying some of the £30m United spent on him.

      Until then, COME ON UNITED!!!

    • Sarah 15:34 on July 13, 2010 Permalink | Reply

      Cheers for the comment Phil.

Let’s hope he does soon start to repay the money we’ve spent on him.

Also I do love to be proved wrong!

Class player, wish he could look a little more rooneyesque though! Hope he and Anderson can do a Nani this season. If Berba can bring back his TH years, he can be a 20 goals a season CF.

Well me 2 not like this player with his sulky attitude, but he can sometimes produce magic, and how I wished he performed those more often. The coming season may see him lose his place in the starting XI if he continues like next season, and Hernandez will surely be praying for that to happen to get more frequent football, but I think SAF could try a new formation, with Berbatov playing just behind Rooney and Hernandez, as he can hold on to the ball quite well, and thus give the attack a better push…
And why not go for another striker as well in the transfer, as I wont bet my money on Owen to stay injury free most of the season, so someone like Benzema can be brought in or even Suarez/Fabiano.

    • Rite$h 14:37 on July 18, 2010 Permalink | Reply

sorry was meant to be “last season” instead of “if he continues like next season” :P

        Cheers for reading!

I can’t see another striker coming in, SAF has said we have enough cover.

Hopefully Roo, Berba, Owen and Hernandez will all provide SAF with a selection headache!
